Magee to end production segment in Donegal
18 Feb '06
1 min read
Magee, the clothing company, plans to end its production in Donegal town, cutting 60 jobs next year in June.
It has put the blame for this on the high manufacturing cost prevalent in Ireland.
The company will continue its administration, design and marketing activity in Donegal Town, where it has operated since 1866.
Magee's weaving operation, employing 60 people at the factory, or Magee shops will not be affected by its decision.
Chairman Lynn Temple said that Magee did not have any major competitor producing garments on a large scale in Ireland or the UK.
Magee plans to continue employing around 130 workers in Donegal Town including 30 in local retail outlet.
