On 27 January 2005, the Government of Malaysia initiated an anti-dumping investigation based on a petition filed by MPI Polyester Industries (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. on behalf of the domestic industry producing polyethylene terepththalate (PET resin), used in production of bottles, films, sheets and strap.
The preliminary investigations concluded that the domestic industry had suffered material injury as a result of dumping. Provisional anti-dumping duties were imposed effective from 25 June 2005.
The Government has now completed the final investigations as provided under section 25 of the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993, and has confirmed that dumping had occurred and the domestic industry was materially injured. Accordingly definitive anti-dumping duties will be imposed:
