Stage Stores commences trading under 'SSI' symbol

Clothing retailer Stage Stores Inc announced that, effective today, it has begun trading its Common Stock on the New York Stock Exchange (the 'NYSE') under the symbol 'SSI'.

Stage's Common Stock had been trading on the NASDAQ National Market under the symbol 'STGS' since January 8th 2002. Its Series A and Series B Warrants, which have also traded on the NASDAQ National Market since January 8th 2002 under the symbols 'STGSW' and 'STGSZ', respectively, will not move to the NYSE since they will expire on August 23rd 2006.

The company currently operates 194 Bealls, 48 Palais Royal and 134 Stage stores throughout the South Central states, and operates 174 Peebles stores throughout the Midwestern, Southeastern, Mid-Atlantic and New England states.
