Taiwanese company World Knitting has invested $6 million to open Kopano Textile factory in Lesotho, South Africa, which will produce t-shirts and jeans employing over 3000 workers.

These products will be exported to countries like the US.

Company also plans to commence fabric mill operations by the end of 2006.

Such projects will help to create employment for atleast part of the 6000 workers who lost their jobs as a result of the end of World Trade Organisation Multi-Fibre Agreement.

About six plants in Lesotho were forced to shut down last year.
Lesotho exports mainly to the US but is struggling against the competition from cheaper Chinese and Indian products.
