WTVI airs feature on Textile Heritage

WTVI – TV – 42 aired an hour long program, 'Fading Fabric: Remembering Our Textile Heritage' on Sunday, 16:00, that was named the 'best documentary' at the Southern Exposure Film Forum in November.

Written, directed and produced by Joel Blackwelder, the documentary depicts vanishing cotton mill way of life through the lens of books, music, the internet, the work of community historians, plays and even though the experience of civil war re-enactors.

It explores the labour discord of the 20th centuary and displays the mechanical the mechanical inventions in the cotton industry including the ground-breaking cotton gin.

It also studies the racial impacts on cotton since slavery to emergence of mill work force in 1960, followed by an interview with Corine Cannon, the first African American to get a skilled position on the production line at Cannon Mills.
