Nitin Kalothia, Director, Manufacturing & Process Consulting, Frost & Sullivan opines that "India has significant catching up to do with other nations on safety practices. Many leading corporates have invested the time, energy, and effort required to create safe workplaces, but their numbers are too low to make an impact at the country level".

The Safety Excellence model is built on five broad parameters, Safety Management Systems, Process Safety, Equipment Safety, Employee Safety and Occupational Health. These five parameters are further divided into sub-parameters that evaluate and map the organization's journey from a reactive to a proactive safety approach.

Detailed feedback on the maturity of the organization's safety system will be shared in addition to the GMEA report. Also, the highest scoring organizations will be recognized for 'Excellence in Safety' during the Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards banquet.

As an integral part of the process, shortlisted sites are assessed on 'Occupational Health and Safety' along with other parameters. An addition to this year's program is the optional module on "Safety Excellence Assessments"! Thus, in addition to the standard evaluation done for safety systems, organizations can opt to have the maturity of safety systems diagnosed (in manufacturing facilities) and potentially awarded.
