Karen Kendrick-Hands, a veteran lawyer and environmental activist, opened City Knits, a yarn store in Detroit's Fisher Building.

Karen's 1,000-square-foot shop store carries more than 47,000 different yarn textures, colors and accessories.

In past three years, her biggest creation is “crafting community” which caters to all kind of customers.

According to Sherry Mulne, a marketing consultant for the National Needle Arts Association, due to such efforts number of crafters have increased from 800 to 1800, today.
