John Cotton's building on Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, was affected by spreading of fire and twenty-five people had to be evacuated with one person being hospitalised for smoke inhalation.

More than 50 firefighters from seven stations attended the incident.

An outside storage shed caught fire which set the bales ablaze, almost reaching the main building.

Terry Kirby, Red Watch Manager at Brighouse Station, said that the fire spread to some bales which were between storage unit and main building threatening to engulf the mill.

Robin Butler, Engineering Director at the firm, said the fire caused a bit of damage to roof and a part of the factory.

Fillings for bedding industry, duvets and quilts are manufactured in the factory.

Fire crews from Brighouse, Mirfield, Dewsbury, Batley, Cleckheaton, Huddersfield and Shipley helped in dousing off the fire.
