Brandix Lanka to set up $300 mn apparel park in AP

Brandix Lanka Ltd, (BLL) is planning to invest almost US $300 million to build an apparel park in the Vishakapatnam Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Andhra Pradesh (AP).
Ashroff Omar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), informed that the planning and designing of the park was completed and the first phase construction is expected to begin this June.
Omar also said that the company was in talks with several Indian textile players urging them to set up their units in the park.
The first phase of this 1000 acre park is scheduled to be operational by the end of the fiscal year.
When fully operational, the park will provide jobs for over 60,000 workers.
Experts believe that this development will prove to be significant for Indian apparel industry and a beginning of a trend as the leading firms like MAS Holdings and Hirdramani's are already launching their outlets in the country.
Brandix Lanka, a Sri Lankan apparel garments company, is supported by over 20 manufacturing facilities at home and Madagascar with marketing offices in New York, Columbus, and London, and a sourcing office in Bangalore.
Brandix Group comprises over 20 manufacturing plants with a combined workforce of 14,500 and an annual turnover of Rs2,500 crore.
