Mansfield town centre moved a step closer on Saturday with the demolition of the town's historic Shoe Co building due to a splendid campaign to develop a gigantic new housing and office complex.
Ever since Mansfield Shoe Co closed in 2004, the familiar sight of Stockwell Gate factory, which stood empty, has been knocked down.
As part of a multi-million pound proposal to restore Mansfield, 79 executive apartments each having one-bedroom, 20,000 square feet office and car parking space will be constructed.
Tony Jackson Project Designer of Ollerton-based Fasthandle Ltd, which is developing the site, told that this money-spinning project is an encouraging step for the town.
Jackson added, the place was a haven for vandals and drug users hence this exhilarating re-development will not only generate a forward thinking modern building but will also support sustained social improvement and renewal of the area.
The 100 year old factory had employed more than 1,000 people and produced a wide range of high-quality footwear, during its pinnacle.
