High inventories and decrease in Chinese demand are the major reasons counted for the decline in the prices of Ethylene glycol since April 2005.
Chinese polyester manufacturers have reduced their operating costs and exhausted inventories of ethylene glycol.
According to reports, China had imported 393,000 tons of ethylene glycol in March 2005, higher than February 2005 import orders of 268,000 tons.
A further downfall in the ethylene glycol inventories is expected in the second half of 2005. Polyester production may decline by 700,000 tons in 2005, due to a 250,000 tons fall in ethylene glycol demand.
