Jute Corporation of India (JCI), central jute procuring and promoting agency, will lift jute produced by state growers, this year onwards.
The decision was taken at a meeting held in New Delhi, under the chairmanship of the Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela.
The meeting, deliberated over problems faced by jute-growing states, apart from West Bengal, was attended by the Members of Parliament from Bihar and Tripura, besides Orissa.
Jute growers of Orissa complained that JCI had not been procuring their produce for the last two years, however, produce had been lifted from West Bengal by the agency at MSP (minimum support price) under commercial price (prevailing market price) policy.
Orissa has been producing almost 250,000 lakh quintals of raw jute per annum.
Besides complaining about JCI's lack of concern for Orissa, Balasore MP, M A Kharabela Swain, regretted that growers are undergoing hellish pain as they are exploited by middlemen.
