Home furnishing maker Haverty Furniture Inc reported sales for the month ended June 30, 2006.
Havertys' June sales increased 9.5 percent to $71.7 million, compared with $65.5 million in June 2005. On a comparable-store basis, June sales increased 8.2 percent. Comparable-store sales do not include stores or locations opened, closed or otherwise non-comparable during the last 12 months.
Sales for the first six months of 2006 increased 5.0 percent to $420.1 million compared with $400.0 million in 2005. On a comparable-store basis, sales increased 3.4 percent for the first six months.
Clarence H. Smith, president and chief executive officer, said, "Sales for June continued at a very good pace as deliveries to customers were again aided by improved product flow. Throughout the second quarter, our sales were positively impacted by stronger promotional activity as well as a more fashionable merchandising assortment and in-store presentation.
"Total written orders for the month of June were approximately 4 percent ahead of June last year. Our written orders for the first four days of July increased by a low double-digit percentage over last year. Traditional sales activity was enhanced as many consumers enjoyed an extended four-day weekend for Independence Day this year."
