Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has decided to postpone the implementation of clothing and textile quotas on Chinese imports from September 28, 2006 to January 2007.

Woolworths is one of the companies that has accepted and backed this decision.

Simon Susman, CEO, explained that every proposal needs to be carefully studied so as to assure the consumers of minimal rise in prices.

Susman noted that the Government's decision will offer enough time to consider opinions from a cross section of major traders.

"We look forward to engaging further with government and other key stakeholders on the detail of this proposal," Susman told the press.

However, Government had to face opposition from several retailers who claimed that the local manufacturers would not be able to balance the overnight drop in supplies.
