Closure of Bob Stevens Fabrication Plant, located in Wagram, has been declared by Laurinberg and Scotland County Chamber of Commerce.

Over 800 labourers will lose their jobs as WestPoint Stevens shuts the textile plant before April 2007, said Jim Frank Henderson, Chamber President.

Workers of the towel making plant were told about the closure on Friday. Bob Stevens is located in West Point, Georgia, and it filed a case of restructuring in June 2003 in the US Bankruptcy Court.

Henderson added that since WestPoint Stevens is the county's biggest job provider, the closure will be a big blow to county's economy.
