Reliance Industries (RIL) is planning to close down polyester intermediate mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) manufacturing facility at Kurkumbh near Pune.

Company sources confirmed to Fibre2fashion that they had already started winding up the operations at the 150-acre site and the facility will be transferred.

However, officials did not reveal any specifics and said that it was as yet not decided whether the unit will be entirely relocated or shifted in bits and parts.

Kurkumbh plant, which manufactures MEG from industrial alcohol, has 90 employees on its rolls and another 250 contract labourers.

Insiders stress that the workers will be placed either in other units or retained for new projects.
