BASF closes Portsmouth polymer plant

By late July BASF Corp closed its Portsmouth, Virginia, production facility that manufactured superabsorbent polymer used in baby diapers and adult incontinence items.

Company revealed that the plant employed around 80 workers and 47 contractors. Those positions will be phased out by the end of October.

Germany-based chemical giant said that until then, workers will clean and decommission the plant.
