Reliance Retail to absorb half-a-mn employees

Raghu Pillai, President and Chief Executive (Operations and Strategy) of RIL, said at a press conference that Reliance Retail Ltd has the capacity to employ half-a-million people in direct jobs and one million indirect jobs in the next three years.

The president said, "Reliance Retail plans to have a pan-India presence by opening over 30 RelianceMart hypermarkets in financial year 2008 and over 500 by the end of financial year 2010. This would involve a Rs 25,000-crore investment, create half-a-million jobs and indirect employment to one million more."

Pillai further added, "Organised retail is expected to touch US$ 60 billion by 2011 and has the potential to trigger socio-economic transformation on an unprecedented scale in our country."

Reliance Retail Limited, which had a grand opening of India's largest hypermarket on August 14, would showcase a product range of about 95,000, including home-care products, apparel, accessories, IT, lifestyle products and footwear among many more.
