Welspun India recently announced that it planned to set up a bath-rug manufacturing unit in Gujarat. The anticipated investment will be around Rs1.4 billion and the plant will most likely be operational by May 2008.

This facility is expected to add over Rs3.5 billion to the company's income.

Akhil Jindal, President, told Fibre2fashion, “We expect to go forward with current line of bedding and bathing products. Through this new plant we will be able to offer comprehensive solution in these categories, especially expanding the bedding range. This will be value addition to our existing collection.”

He further informed, “We will be targeting both, domestic and international markets. Currently, 80-90 percent of our products are shipped overseas. Though we are aiming to expand market in India, we still expect major part to be exports.”

Jindal said, “We have established ourselves in this category. Since we are also operating in these places for a while now, we are quite familiar with the market scenario. Besides, our clients like Wal-Mart always help us research the market patterns and understand the trade designs in particular regions.”

He explained, “The new plant will be different from others as it will be equipped with special machinery, especially which can help us achieve advanced stitching techniques. Labour also will be specially chosen according to the needs.”

Plant will manufacture products within the starting range of Rs1200-1500.
