PGI Mexico to provide barrier material for diaper applications

Polymer Group Inc announced it will locate a multi-beam spunmelt line for hygiene applications at its San Luis Potosi, Mexico plant to serve customers in North America.
The company will invest approximately $50 million in a state-of-the-art, multi-beam Reifenhauser REICOFIL 4 line that will increase capacity by approximately 15,000 metric tons to meet ongoing strong demand for its nonwoven materials used in diapers and other personal hygiene products.
The line will feature the latest technology and produce high-quality, lightweight, strong fabrics that are used in fine denier back sheet, leg cuffs and materials that go into other parts of diapers.

This state-of-the-art line will allow us to broaden our product offerings and meet the needs of customers in the U.S. and Mexico with the most advanced engineered products for hygiene applications," said Polymer Group's chief executive officer, Veronica (Ronee) M. Hagen.
PGI announced its plans to expand in this market in August. Construction is underway and the company expects commercial production to fully begin in late 2008.
