Weekend Review (3-4 November 2007): What remained of Hurricane Noel, producing peak winds of 75 mph over parts of the East Coast, moved quickly up the East Coast and into the North Atlantic. The effects, including heavy rains and significant beach erosion, were by far the strongest from coastal New England northward into the eastern Maritimes.

Elsewhere, more tranquil weather dominated the continent with storminess (rain and snow) confined to western and central Canada and into the Great Lakes and interior Northeast. Near normal temperatures were the rule, the cooler exceptions across Eastern Canada, Upper Midwest, and Northeast. Temperatures were seasonably warm in most of the West.

Last Week (week-ending 11/03/2007): While October ended on a seasonably cool note, it was not enough to diminish what was the warmest October ever recorded in the Northeast. An all-time record warm October was recorded in numerous cities to include Philadelphia, New York City, Trenton, and Wilmington, DE.

A storm system moved onto the West Coast early week providing much needed rains to California. Meanwhile, the eastern half of North America began the week on the warm side with temperatures generally in the 60s and 70s with pleasant weather. Later in the week, temperatures dropped behind a strong cold front.

The biggest weather story of the week, however, was Hurricane Noel. The storm spent much of the week at tropical storm strength well off Floridas east coast, keeping the worst impacts in the Caribbean island nations of Haiti and Dominican Republic.
