Major Winter Storm to Bear Down on the Northeast This Weekend. Expect Significant Impact to Retailers as Holiday Shoppers Will Endure Travel Difficulties.
Shoppers across a large area of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic are likely to be challenged by a significant winter storm bearing down just in time for the upcoming weekend. This will be an unwelcome situation for retailers that are already experiencing challenges this holiday season due to the current economic climate.
The storm will take shape later this week spreading a wide swath of rain, snow and ice across the already beleaguered Plains and Midwest. The storm is then expected to strengthen as it moves to the East Coast late week.
While the fine details are still to be determined, there is potential for the major East Coast cities to experience wintry conditions. Compared against a warm and mainly dry weekend during the same period last year, traffic counts are likely to be depressed.
