All employee contributions made to these designated relief organizations in conjunction with the online site will be matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis, up to $500,000, by a company contribution to The David May Employees Trust Fund. This fund had been previously established specifically for employee assistance by The May Department Stores Company, which merged with Federated on Aug. 30. The David May Trust then will disburse funds directly to Federated/May employees and their families impacted by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding.

Among those directly affected by Hurricane Katrina are more than 500 Macy's, Foley's and David's Bridal Group employees and their families in Gulf states. These include associates of stores in the New Orleans area that are closed and badly flooded.

Federated and its divisions with stores in affected areas are providing food, water and other transitional assistance to their employees and their families. This includes donating bottled water to the American Red Cross and beginning in-store collections of clothing and supplies to be distributed to impacted employees when they're needed. The company is responding to requests from employees for immediate assistance, based on need.

Federated, with corporate offices in Cincinnati and New York, is one of the premier retailers, with annual sales of more than $15.6 billion. Federated operates more than 450 department stores in 34 states, Guam and Puerto Rico under the names of Macy's and Bloomingdale's. The company also operates macys.com and Bloomingdale's By Mail.
