Dow Corning, a global leader in silicon-based technology and innovation announced the opening of its first representative office for Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City. This represents the company's continuous efforts to meet the increased demand for silicone products and services in emerging economies around the world.

“This is a very exciting time for Dow Corning as we establish our presence in Vietnam, supporting our goal to provide innovative solutions to our customers around the world,” said Dr. Stephanie A. Burns, Chairman, President and CEO of Dow Corning Corporation at the office opening ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She added: “we recognize the promise presented by the robust economy of this country and look forward to bringing the benefits of silicone materials and technology to contribute to its development.”

Vietnam is the latest example, after Turkey and Russia, of Dow Corning's effort to support customers as they expand their business base geographically.

The office opening exemplifies how Dow Corning is truly dedicated to its global customers by giving local access to the customized services and solutions that the company offers. As Vietnam is building a stronger industrial base with industrial output growth rate estimated at 11.3%, there is tremendous demand from existing Dow Corning customers to be supported locally as they expand their operations into Vietnam.

The rapid growth of the Vietnam economy and the accession into WTO in January 2007 attract foreign companies to establish operations in the country, thereby creating strong demand for silicones to serve the thriving needs for infrastructure and industrial development.

According to Vietnam Minister of Planning and Investment, the country attracted US$13billion foreign direct investment for the past 11 months, with heavy industry, construction and light industry topping the investment sectors. Japan, Singapore and Korea are among the top five countries investing in Vietnam.
