Dow reports Plaquemine has returned to normal operations

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Michigan based chemical maker Dow Chemical Company reports that all Company employees in the affected areas have been safely accounted for and are safe, and that its site in Plaquemine has returned to normal operations.
Progress continues at Union Carbide's St. Charles Operations in Hahnville, where production units are in various stages of being brought back on line. Dow continues to expect a return to normal operations at that site within a few weeks.
Disruptions in transportation and other logistics in the region continue to impact Dow's access to raw materials and ability to deliver products. Dow is working with suppliers and others to resolve these issues, while keeping customers apprised and making business-specific announcements as situations change.
Both sites are maintaining a strong focus on the safety of employees and the local communities. Dow continues to assist employees who have been impacted by the hurricane, providing temporary housing for some 170 employees as well as access to interest-free loans, counseling and health services.
Dow is working with communities to assist with their needs as they recover from the hurricane. To that end, Dow made a $1 million cash donation to the American Red Cross as part of its $3 million pledge to hurricane relief efforts. Dow also loaned generators to a local hospital and other critical businesses to get them running prior to power restoration. Other efforts include loaning cargo containers to shuttle much-needed supplies to the heavily impacted areas and contributing various other items to relief organizations in the area. Additionally, Dow employees have been volunteering at area shelters.
