Haverty Furniture Companies Inc reported sales for the month ended January 31, 2008.
Havertys' January sales decreased 5.4% to $61.3 million, compared with $64.9 million in January 2007. On a comparable-store basis, January sales decreased 8.4%.
Comparable-store sales do not include stores or locations opened, closed or otherwise non-comparable during the last 12 months.
Clarence H. Smith, president and chief executive officer, said, "Our total written business in January was down approximately 8%.
We are carefully controlling our costs, managing our inventories and sustaining our gross margins during this challenging cycle."
