Huntsman closes all Texas gulf coast facilities due to Hurricane

Texas based Leading commodity and differentiated chemical manufacturer & marketer Huntsman announced that it has suspended operations at its Texas Gulf Coast facilities in anticipation of Hurricane Rita. This includes manufacturing facilities in Port Arthur, Port Neches, Conroe, Freeport, Chocolate Bayou and Dayton, Texas.
The Company has also evacuated its headquarters and research and technology center in the Woodlands, Texas. Approximately 2,000 employees work at these locations. This action will impact the production of ethylene, propylene, cyclohexane, butadiene, propylene oxide, MTBE, surfactants, amines and ethylene glycol. All other facilities in North America currently remain operational.
Peter R. Huntsman, President and Chief Executive Officer, indicated “The safety of our employees and the communities in which we operate is the Company's top priority. As such, we have taken action well in advance of the storm. Once the storm has passed, we will evaluate our facilities and begin to re-start them in a safe, controlled manner.”
