World's largest marketer for mattress fabrics for bedding and upholstery fabrics for furniture Culp Inc. announced that its finishing plant at Almanace will shutter by January.
There will be 100 redundancies and during this year, over 250 workers have lost job due to closure of its plants. The company's workforce will come down from 1000 to 500.
Senior Vice President Kenneth Ludwig said Monday that Culp will source finishing work from to another company reasoning that it is more cost-effective than doing the work done within.
Sadly acknowledging the decision Culp CEO Robert Culp said it will help the company compete in a global market.
With the closing in January, Alamance County will have only two remaining plants.
