RIL H1 production volumes of PFY,PSF & PET reach 549,000 tons

Country's leading polyester fibres (PFY and PSF) maker Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) having 50 percent market share, has registered a 7 percent rise in the production volumes of PFY, PSF and PET at 549,000 tons for six months period ended September 30, 2005.

Speciality products, main areas of concentration for the company, recorded output that revolved around 56 percent of PSF and 36 percent of PFY production.

This generates up to 50 percent of the company revenues in the premium segment in terms of commodity prices.

Sources said that the combined total demand for PFY, PSF and PET for H1 stood at 896,000 tons, which is up 7 percent.

Besides, Reliance leads the pack among Indian companies as the largest producer of polyester intermediates - MEG, PTA and PX, capturing a market share of 77 percent.

RIL is also reported to have raised the output of PX, PTA and MEG by 5 percent to 16,08,000 ton.

RIL turnover for the six months ended September 30, this year stands at Rs. 42,777 crores (US$ 9,718 million), which is up 27 percent compared to same period last year.

At 50 percent hike the company net profit has reached Rs. 4,791 crores (US$ 1,088 million).

Rising sales at RIL were driven by increase in product selling prices that shot up 23 percent, and sales volume jacked up 4 percent over last year figures, same period.

Notably, 96 percent capacity utilisation has been reported by RIL refinery which processed 15.87 million tons of crude during the six months period.

At 6.54 million tons, the company's oil & gas output and petrochemicals, including toll conversion, went up against 6.29 million tons, a 4 percent rise over the corresponding period, last year.
