NZ Music Industry Commission's Month Committee teamed up with Hallensteins in May this year to make the official NZ Music Month 2005 T-shirt available for sale for the first ever time.
This was a highly successful campaign which saw thousands of New Zealanders showing their support for the annual promotion of local music. The proceeds earned by the Committee came to over $10,000 and are being donated to two music-based charities, the Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust and the Music Education Trust of Aotearoa NZ (METANZ).
The Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust owns and operates the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre, where the main approach to music therapy is based on the internationally renowned Nordoff-Robbins approach emphasising improvisation and other creative techniques. This approach to music therapy is grounded in the belief that all people can respond to music - no matter what the circumstances.
Operating a sliding scale of fees for sessions depending on client's means and what they can afford, the Centre is designed to make the new music therapy opportunity accessible within the community. Tonight at the 2nd Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust annual fundraiser a cheque for $8,000 will be presented on behalf of the NZ Music Month Committee.
METANZ is a trust whose mission is to improve the quality and availability of music education. It promotes and advocates the importance of education in music, and education through music, to groups and individuals, and supports actions by others aimed at promoting and advocating music within arts education in Aotearoa New Zealand.
