Fruit of Loom to shutter Irish ops early

Buncrana, Donegal based textile unit of the US company Fruit of Loom will close down a year before its earlier announced closure.

Company informing its workers informed last September that Irish operation would shutter and production will move on to Morocco.

About 3,000 people found enployment in County Donegal unit at its peak with 380 hands still present today in Buncrana.

Another unit at Derry employs 250.

Redundancies are slated to begin February next year, and July will ring in the complete closure, sources said.
