Basic goods discount retailer Dollar General Corporation reported net income for the third quarter of fiscal 2005 of $64.4 million, or $0.20 per share, compared to net income of $71.1 million, or $0.22 per share, in the third quarter of fiscal 2004.
In 2005, the Company increased the number of departments utilized for its retail inventory method gross profit calculation from 10 to 23 (the "RIM expansion"). The impact in the third quarter of the RIM expansion was a decrease in income before income taxes of approximately $10.8 million and a decrease in earnings per share ("EPS") of $0.02.
