The Dow Corning Board of Directors elected Stephanie A. Burns, President and Chief Executive Officer, to the position of Chairman at its quarterly meeting held yesterday, December 12, 2005. Burns will replace Gary E. Anderson, who announced his retirement after serving as board chairman since 2001. Both changes are effective January 1, 2006.

Burns will continue to serve as Dow Corning CEO, a post she assumed after Anderson's retirement from active service with the company in July 2004.

“Gary's unwavering dedication to the success of Dow Corning, customers, and employees has inspired everyone,” said Burns. “His emphasis on integrity and innovation has shaped Dow Corning's culture globally. Going forward, I'm excited about the opportunities for the board to continue guiding Dow Corning on its path of sustained innovation and success.”

Anderson retires after a 38-year career with Dow Corning. “It was invigorating to work with such a fine group of employees and board members who have done an outstanding job of making Dow Corning the technology and innovation leader it is today,” said Anderson. “I will miss working closely with them and am confidant that Dow Corning's future is bright and in good hands.”

Burns joined Dow Corning in 1983 as a researcher. Four years later, she became product development manager for the Electronics Industry, where she led advances in ultraviolet curable coatings and materials for device protection and electronics adhesives. She became director of Women's Health in 1994.
