Tamil Nadu poised to generate 50 lakh textile jobs

According to a survey conducted by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), approximately 50 lakh employment opportunities will be generated by the textile industry alone, in the State of Tamil Nadu.
Textile sector will be offering US $40-50 billion business by 2015 from Tamil Nadu.
The State has positioned very well to capitalize on the post-WTO circumstances as it has already established a strong industrial base.
Favorable Government policies, globalization and the impact of WTO, progress in selling and expertise gained so far, have all greatly influenced its textile industry.
Although, the knitting and garment making have evolved as low capital and highly labour concentrated segments, whereas the spinning, weaving and processing units have developed into high capital and low labour-intensive segments form the industry, according to the CII report.
