The US Labor Department and a group of Korean apparel makers have agreed on program to monitor garment firms supplying workers for conforming their operation under labor laws.

Korean Manufacturers Association represents more than 700 garment makers from California.

It was started in 2003, and extended for two more years, said George Friday, Regional Administrator of the Labor Department's Wage and Hour Division.

Till date, 13 garment firms have agreed to monitor their contractors and he is not sure about how many more firms will join this program.

Firms that agree to join this program will allow their employees to be trained by the labor agency.

These employees will review pay practices of contractors every 90 days and report to labour officials.

Labor Department also assured that there would be no obstacles in sales or shipment of goods for those firms if minor infractions are found.
