A labour reform is a must for the Indian textile industry to progress says Shanker Sinh Vaghela, Union Textile Minister.
He was addressing the opening session of the fourth International Textile and Apparel Congress (ITAC) and asserted then that by observing this objective in mind, reform procedures should be decided at the earliest.
Vaghela said the Ministry would suggest liberalization of labour laws for Special Economic Zones and textile parks and dealings such as increasing the minimum working hours in elite textile zones to 60 hours a week from the current 48 hours and altering contract labour laws is being contemplated.
Indian textile industry has developed to such an extent that it is capable of fulfilling the textile requirements of the globe, he stated.
Since, the country has skilled labour force, excellent infrastructure and raw materials, foremost to maximize earnings, he urged foreign textile companies to invest in India.
Giuseppe Miroglio, President, Miroglio Group, said the group was considering access into Indian markets in the near future. Miroglio Group's dealing in China is worth 20 million.
The Miroglio Group, which is one among the apex Italian textile companies, has a turnover of 950 million euro.
