Non-agro based employment rate decreases to 14.9%

Employment figures revealed by TUIK (TURKISH STATISTICAL INSTITUTE)relate to December 2005, January and Ferbruary 2006.

Accordingly, the total employment was 20,834,000 of which, 46.1 percent contitutes labour workforce.

Total unemployed was estimated as 2,799,000 persons, and the unemployment rate was estimated as 11.8 percent during the period under consideration.

Number of unemployed persons went up by 102,000 compared to the same period of the previous year and has reached to 2,799,000 persons in Turkey.

Unemployment rate has reached to 11.8 percent recording 0.3 percentage points increase.

Unemployment rate declined to 13.7 percent with a 0.1 point decrease in urban areas and risen to 8.9 percent with a 0.7 percentage points increase in rural areas.

Non-agricultural unemployment rate declined to 14.9 percent with a 0.3 percentage point decrease compared compared to the same period, previous year.

It declined to 13.9 percent with a 0.2 percentage points decrease for men and to 18.8 percent with a 1 percentage point decrease for women compared to the same period, previous year.
