Under the Prime Minister Employment Scheme (PMES) during the last financial year, against a target of providing employment to 52,500 people, loans were sanctioned to 53,777 applicants and distributed among 48,219 applicants, informed Jagdish Singh Rana, Minister for Handloom, Silk and Small Industries and Export Promotion.
Elaborating achievements, the minister informed that over 30,000 small scale industries (SSIs) were established in the financial year 2005-06 that employed 125,603 people at an investment of Rs 262.76 crore, he added.
Rana stated that the government has formulated a scheme under which the interest on the principle amount will be waived-off if the loanee repay the loan in one installment.
Under the scheme effective from the date of issue of the Government Order till March 31, 2008, a maximum of 10 per cent of the principle investment, not exceeding Rs 5 lakh, will be sanctioned to SC, ST and women entrepreneurs and an additional funding of Rs 7.5 lakh will also be provided, explained the minister.
On availing financial aid from the Government of India for an exhibition held from April 28 to May 8, the Uttar Pradesh Export Corporation successfully organized the event,stated the minister.
Chikan from Lucknow, zari from Agra, handicraft jewelry, carpets and silk products, all received good response.
Rana informed that the UP government will make all efforts to participate and promote at such exhibitions in future.
