While high-tech industry is growing rapidly, creating new jobs everyday, textile and retail sector continues its downtrend.
The figure of 40000 workers in textile industry has been gradually dropping since 2000 and is expected to shrink even further.
During the 2000-2005 period, retail lost jobs, including those at grocery stores alongwith hotels, telecommunications, transportation and warehousing sector registering fall.
Manufacturing, excluding textiles and apparel, lost 33,000 jobs which is almost equal to the jobs lost nearly in textiles and apparel sector.
