With the formal MoU arrived at beween Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), factory owners and Government, it is hoped that normalcy will be restored at the Ready Made Garment (RMG) units with the labour returning to work signalling normalacy after almost a decade.

In this connection, the Government has formed 15 teams to supervise successful implementation of provisions prescribed in MoU. However, it is of utmost importance that these provisions are made available with speed and efficiency.

These teams must not forget that even now some companies are witnessing labour turmoil.

If they fail to notice the state of turmoil, the fact looms large over the country that RMG workers have undergone a hellish pain for more than a decade.

Government has to take some confidence building measures before implementing MoU, if it wants to establish a rapport between the workers and owners.

The recent turmoil has caused huge loss to the regular flow of foreign exchange from this sector which contributed almost highest earnings to the Government coffers through exports, in recent years.
