Workers at the textile manufacturing plants in Export Processing Zone Athi River have been forced to adopt a 24 hour work schedule to make-up for the lost time and money due to scarcity of water.
The companies announced that around 7,200 workers were in danger of losing their jobs if the cost does not get covered.
Companies explained that since the water shortage, loss incurred on each item has reached Sh360.
In the rush to meet deadlines the products have to be airlifted which is much more expensive than the regular shipping.
This has increased the cost of production significantly, and has been demanding additional efforts.
