Textile labour forces in Tamil Nadu are in fighting mood as State Governments, previous and current, repeatedly failed to provide interim relief for last five to six years for the industry.
Workers in the state have expressed dissatisfaction to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and asked him to initiate steps to disburse relief, which has been due since 2001.
Joint Action Council of trade union submitted a memorandum to CM complaining that government order was issued way back in September 2001, but no mill had offered relief.
Memorandum also revealed that even after State Government formed a special industrial tribunal and referred the wage issue and other nine demands of the workers to it, no positive measures were announced towards making a new wage settlement.
Trade unions also lamented the fact that in several mills, permanent workers had been rendered jobless and casual workers had been appointed.
