Welfare legislation demanded to protect handloom weavers

Handloom weavers' plight is getting worsened day by day as the amount they receive is much less than the efforts they put in.
To ensure adequate wage for the weavers, members of the Pondicherry Handloom Weavers Union and All India Coordination Committee of Trade Unions organized a rally on August 22.
They asked to implement welfare legislation to protect handloom weavers.
They also suggested that red colour ration cards should be issued for the weavers living below poverty line so that they could take advantage of Government welfare scheme.
