Due to financial problems, Light Style Garment Factory closed down in Salmabad and around 700 workers of the closed factory claimed that they were forced to work illegally in odd jobs.

In open house discussion at Indian Embassy , workers claimed that only 350 workers have been granted permission and around 750 workers are still working in various odd jobs.

On the other hand, Labour Ministry has dismissed this claim saying their allegation is baseless.

Labour Ministry and Indian Embassy are working together for rehabilitation and repatriation of the workers who lost jobs, labour relations Director Shaikh Ali bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa stated.

In May 2005, around 1,400 workers lost jobs out of them 1,050 were Indians. Among the Indian workers, 280 were sent back to India and over 700 were shifted to other 20 companies, informed Shaikh Ali.

Co-ordination Committee of Indian Associations (CCIA) General Secretary John Iype agreed with Shaikh Ali's statement by saying Labour Ministry has done admirable work in settling the dispute.
