INTUC urges centre to help out weavers

Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) in its two-day working committee meeting has urged the centre to take immediate steps to protect the interests of the handloom weavers and uplift their standard of life through a package.

G Sanjeeva Reddy, the President of INTUC said that it was a pity to see that large number of seventy-lakh workforce was living in poor conditions.

The committee advised the Government to issue Rs500 to 1000 per month to each family to avoid death from starvation and should be in force at least for the next five years.

He said that the working committee meeting has appealed to the Centre and State Governments to implement labour laws immediately.
