Workforce compensated for job loss

Employees of Jim Jam Sportswear Co. Inc., at Northampton County a garment manufacturer are eligible to apply for federal jobless benefits.

A notice issued recently by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry to aid for job loss due to reduced hours.

The company had filed a petition with the federal government to ensure workers would be eligible for so-called Trade Adjustment Assistance benefits.

The aid goes to manufacturing workers who either lose their employment or receive reduced hours due to foreign competition.

Jim Jam also makes bathing suits.

The period for benefits runs from July 28, 2005 to August 17, 2008.

Workers are eligible for receiving free training, re-employment service, health insurance, tax credit and cash benefits.
