In a shocking development, MA Cashmere, a well-known textile firm in Innerleithen has announced its closure to its staff with immediate effect, causing a loss of 23 jobs.
The disappointing news is another blow for the textile industry in the Scottish Borders, which has already suffered a lot from recent job losses.
The T&G union is organizing a meeting to discuss the shock development and also to take stock of what has happened at the firm in Innerleithen, the eighth largest settlement in the Scottish Borders.
The union's efforts to find out if receivers have been appointed failed as nobody from the firm was readily contactable for comments.
Murray Allan founded the company in 1971, which later became renowned for its innovative hand-knitted designs. After his retirement in the 1980s, the business went through really tough times.
Unfortunately, even last year's six figure investment failed the intended purpose of saving the jobs of the existing workforce.
