With the urbanization and industrialization spreading to the upland agriculture, the affected landless farmers in Phu Ly town are desperately trying to find jobs outside the agricultural sector.

About 1,000 hactares of agricultural land in Phu Ly Town in northern Ha Nam Province has been earmarked for urban and industrial development since 2000.

This sprawl is rendering the already landless labourers jobless. As a result, the unenviable lot has no option but to look for alternative jobs out side the agriculture sector.

Many local farmers are handing over their land and quitting the Farmers' Association, which they feel has become redundant now.

Nevertheless, the farmers' associations in local hamlets and communes have become increasingly involved in helping landless farmers find new work by opening vocational branches.

Cloth making sector is lending some help to these people. Many of the associations have helped landless farmers find different types of job, such as producing handicraft products.
