Jordon has been sued by a major US trade federation and a business group alleging that it has been exploiting workers from abroad employed in industrial zones which are run jointly in association with Israel.

AFL-CIO along with US National Textile Association has filed the petition under the Free Trade Agreement which originated from Jordon-Israel peace agreement in 1994. The agreement gave birth to the Qualified Industrial Zones which is jointly run by Israeli and Jordanian entrepreneurs.

Goods made in this zone are exempted from US customs fees but human rights groups have reported that foreign workers are subject to exploitation as they are unpaid and are made to work 20 hour shifts on a stretch. Meanwhile, Jordan Government has started reforms with the help of International Labor organization.
