A garment factory was looted and more than dozen vehicles damaged at Mirpur in the capital after some of the workers were beaten by factory staff.
Workers of Opex said that about 50 workers from nearby factories came and asked the management to close the factory as it was a public holiday for Durga Puja and the workers working there would not get overtime for the work.
The factory authorities barred them from coming and did not pay attention to workers request which agitated them. To make matter worse, some of them were beaten which made workers furious.
Workers belonging to more than a dozen garment factories from nearby rushed and ransacked the factory. The factory management refuted the allegations saying that it was a holiday only for Hindus and they had been given leave and bonus.
